Panel and Teacher Training

When we teach the Enneagram in the Narrative Tradition, we teach experientially, through group and individual workshop activities, attention and body practices.   Central to this approach are the panels.  These enable participants to have a visceral experience of how different the type energies are from each other, and to gain an in-depth knowledge of the type mechanisms of all nine types.

Enneagram Panels explained…….

In the Narrative Tradition, we believe that people learn most deeply when they find and work things out for themselves; when they notice their own experience and reflect on what it means.

In a Panel Interview 2-6 people who identify with the same type talk about their experiences in response to questions from an Enneagram practitioner.   Each person gets the chance to speak if they want to, and their experience is taken seriously and respected, which means that people can really feel that they are seen, heard and understood. For the panellists there is a sense of validation, recognition and appreciation of their own qualities and struggles. Moreover, those observing begin to see that the panel – of 2-6 people – who may be very dissimilar in age, background, gender, appearance etc. are very similar in their outlook and beliefs; as the panel progresses these similarities become more and more evident.

Deep down inside we do know ourselves, but because our inner knowing is hidden underneath the layers of our type mechanism, we don’t have easy access to it. The mechanism gets in the way. The way our inner world works is so normal and logical for us that we don’t recognise it as part of our personality structure: “Doesn’t everyone feel that?” or “Doesn’t everyone do that?”  Once we realise that our unconscious beliefs are not universal, a moment of silence and awareness follows, and later, with time we can more easily adjust them or even let them go.  The answers to questions and solutions to problems often surface with remarkable clarity. Suddenly we do know what we really want or desire.

The Panel and Teacher Training Programme

Our Enneagram Teacher Training Programme is licenced by The Narrative Enneagram in the USA, the home of the narrative tradition of Enneagram teaching.

You can enrol for Panel and Teacher training once you have completed the Foundation Programme and at least 4 supervised sessions of your Typing Process Training with Enneagram Training. You may also apply to enrol for Panel and Teacher training if you have successfully completed your Foundation Programme and Typing Practitioner at another Narrative Tradition School – do contact us if you wish to do this.

3 day workshop

The programme starts with a 3 day workshop, held at Hillscourt Conference Centre, Rednal, Birmingham, where you will learn the basic skills of panel and workshop facilitation.

Qualification studies

The workshop is followed by a period of supervised practice in panel and workshop facilitation.

During this time, you carry out the following activities, with the support of a supervisor who is a core faculty member at Enneagram Training. (NB You must successfully complete your typing process supervision sessions before you start the supervised activities below).  You will receive a total of seven supervision sessions during your qualification studies.

Panel facilitation

  • Run at least 5 practice panels, 4 of which are reviewed with your supervisor (in the same way that you did during your typing practitioner training).

Workshop facilitation

  • Initial session with your supervisor to help you plan your workshop.
  • Run one Enneagram workshop (one day).
  • Record 2 x 30 minute teaching/facilitation sessions, which you will review with your supervisor.

Running the workshop will provide you with not only the opportunity to record the required teaching sessions, and but also, potentially, with some of your practice panels.  Of course, you can run more than one workshop if you like!

Assessment

The assessment for Teacher Training is to attend the Teacher Training workshop again (this workshop is included in your fee, and is charged at half price). During this workshop you will:

  • observe the tutors conducting panels and workshop sessions, and talk with tutors about what you have observed.
  • conduct panels and workshop sessions with support and supervision from a tutor
  • take your own Enneagram journey forward by taking part in panels and all the reflective activities of the workshop.

Qualification

On successful completion of these activities you will receive a certificate to state that you are a qualified Enneagram Teacher.  Of course, this is like passing your driving test; it is only after your qualification that you can really deepen your experience of facilitating panels and workshops.  Your supervisor will continue to support you during your first panel interviews and workshops after you qualify.
